Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Manipur.

The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution is the main responsibility in implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), that is to make available of foodgrains and other essential items including S.K. Oil and sugar to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) families in Manipur. Procurement of TPDS rice, wheat and sugar from Central Pool is done by the Department through Food Corporation of India (FCI),
Imphal against the monthly allocated quantities and distributed to the Districts under Targeted Public Distribution System.  S.K. Oil is lifted through the I.O.C. Ltd., Imphal. For effective and meaningful implementation of PDS, the Government of India introduced the Targeted Public Distribution System from the 1st June, 1997 and same was implemented from the 1st Sept., 1997 in Manipur.
